Alex Andes

Alexander Willson Andes, born June 29, 1985, in Kingsport, Tennessee to Gary and Andrea Andes, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 25, 2016, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Alex was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended flight school in Midland, Texas. He also attended the University of Tennessee and Northeast Community College. He loved spending time with friends and family on Boone Lake where he loved boating and wakeboarding. His longtime friends include James Powers, Ronnie Isaacs, Sam Bedford, and Rob Johnstone. Alex was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. As a teenager, Alex was a very active and dedicated Boy Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and among his favorite memories in Scouting was a twelve day backpacking trek through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Alex was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Dean Andes of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Earl Wilson of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

Alex is survived by his parents, Gary and Andrea Andes; sister, Ashley Andes Cooper and husband Devlin, of Macon, Georgia; aunt, Terri Rice, and husband Frank, of Kingsport, Tennessee; uncles, Bob Wilson and wife Anita, of Greeneville, Tennessee, John Wilson and wife Cheryl, of New Ulm, Texas; aunt, Janice Wilson of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; cousins, Caroline Rice of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Dean Rice and son Jude, of Johnson City, Tennessee; and great aunt, Betty Kamber and husband Bob, of Kingsport, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Mountain View United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Ted Hagen, II and Rev. Sam Ward officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the SBK Animal Shelter, 2141 Idle Hour Rd, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 255, chartered by Waverly Road Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, Tennessee, honoring Alex's dedication to Scouting and his spirit of service to others.
