Michael "Mike" Locke

Michael "Mike" K. Locke, 61, Kingsport, died Monday, June 23, 2014, due to a tragic auto accident. Mike was born in Kingsport where he had lived his entire life. A graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, class of 1971, he was the founder and owner of the Hot Dog Hut, which he owned for 33 years and was an avid fan and supporter of Dobyns-Bennett sports. Mike was known for his friendliness to all. He served as TN State Second House District Representative. Mike was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Vermont United Methodist Church.

Mike served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and U.S. Army reserve for 8 years. He was a member of the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew, Lynn View Community Center Board, Kingsport Parks and Recreation Board and the Friends of Allendale. Mike helped in the formation of the Sullivan County Young Republicans and was past president of the Dobyns-Bennett Quarterbacks Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and all types of vintage cars, which he loved to work on with his son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Wesley Locke and Florence Locke and father-in-law, Billy Sanders.

Mike is survived by his wife, Debra "Debbie" S. Locke of the home; son, Hunter Michael Locke of Kingsport; two brothers, Dr. Bill Locke and wife, Judy of Russellville, TN, and David Richard Locke and wife, Donna of Spartanburg, SC; nieces and nephews, Dr. Whitney Jarnagin and husband, Bradley, Dr. Joshua Locke and wife, Casey, Jared Locke, Scott Sanders and Sophie Sanders; two great-nieces, Rhea Jarnagin and Ryleigh Locke; and several cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12-3:00 pm at Higher Ground Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 with Dr. Phil Hoskins and Rev. Jared Wood officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Sanders, Tom Hatley, Tim Taylor, Art Williams, Rick Spivey, Stuart Taylor, Dan Brooks and Paul Asbury.
