KINGSPORT- Aaron V. Calton, 66, went on his final ride to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, after several years of declining health.
Aaron was employed by Mason-Dixon Tank Lines as a diesel mechanic for 7 years and then became an over the road owner/operator with Mason-Dixon and then with Dallas/Mavis over the next 20 years until his retirement in 2001. After retirement, he encompassed his love of the outdoors by working at Warriors Path State Park for 5 ½ years. After his second retirement, he stayed on the roads, but this time on two wheels. He was a proud member of the Southern Cruisers #273 and enjoyed taking scenic rides on his Harley Davidson with his fellow members. He also loved to bench shoot and trap shoot (and shooting the bull) and was an active member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club. He lived his whole life in Kingsport and was loving and devoted to his family and friends, but his favorite pastime was spending time spoiling his grandson.
In addition to his parents, Tuffy and Marie Calton, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Charles Ernest; sisters-in-law, Wanda Jones Clark and Shirley Jones Rose; nephew, Austin Jones; niece, Shanna Jones and several close childhood friends.
Aaron is survived by his loving wife, Darlene and his faithful dog, Max, of the home; daughter, Bekki Cox and husband Dow and grandson, Dow Weston Cox, all of Kingsport; sister, Kathy Salyers and husband Randy of Kingsport; brothers-in-law Jim Jones, Charlie Jones, Kenny (JK) Jones, David Jones, Bill Jones, and Ray Rose; sister-in-law Kaye Thompson; nieces Katrina McReynolds, Katelyn Briggs, Ronda Lane, and Lindsay Jones; nephews, Caleb Salyers, Barry Bishop, Jamie Jones, Jason Jones, Scott Jones, Nathan Thompson, Chris Jones, Scottie Jones, and Anthony Jones; along with several great nieces and nephews; and Bekki’s longtime best friend, Maryalice Masuta, who was like a second daughter to him.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 23rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, with services following at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Bradshaw and Rev. Susan Lankford officiating. Friends may also call any time at the residence.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Susan Lankford officiating. Aaron will be escorted to his final resting place by members of the Southern Cruisers #273. Pallbearers will be his pride and joy, his only grandson, Dow Weston Cox, his brothers-in-law, Randy Salyers, Charlie Jones, David Jones, Jim Jones, Kenny Jones, and Bill Jones; and nephew, Caleb Salyers. Honorary pallbearers will be his son-in-law, Dow Cox; nieces, Lindsay Jones and Katelyn Briggs; brother-in-law, Ray Rose; and long-time friends, Willie Hodges and Jerry Sharrett.
To honor Aaron, and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to a cause he believed in, Shriners Children’s Hospital, 1100 Jericho Dr, Kingsport, TN 37663, for all they do for children and their families.
