Ada Benton

Ada Benton, 88, Kingsport, joined her loving husband, Harold at 11:00 pm Saturday, January 17, 2015. Ada was born in Pigeon Roost, NC and moved to Johnson City at age 16 with her parents and siblings. In 1946 she met the love of her life, Harold, married and moved to Kingsport in 1949. Harold and Ada first began singing in the mid forties and continued singing as the Benton Family until his passing in 1996. Ada continued singing with the Benton Family as long as her health permitted and was a charter member of the First Apostolic Christian Church. Her greatest joy was her family and taking care of them.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold E. Benton, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Ada is survived by three children, Beverly Robinson and husband, Phil, H. Steven Benton and wife, Karen, and Adina Bowman and husband, Greg, all of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Andrae Robinson and wife, Jessica, Stephanie Pope and husband, Brent, Brittany Robinson, Lindsay Habedank and husband, Joseph, and Whitney Benton; one great-grandson, Cayden Pope; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express special thanks to a close family friend, Betty Baker and to the nurses and therapy staff at Asbury Baysmont, the staff of Wilcox Hall, and Emeritus Assisted Living.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-7:00 pm at Higher Ground Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Gary Ratliff, Pastor Greg Bowman and Rev. Jackie Benton officiating. Music will be provided by family members.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Andrae Robinson, Brent Pope, Joseph Habedank, John Spence, Keith Pritchard, David Spears, Phil Robinson and Larry Ratliff.
