Ada Bowling Newman, Colonial Heights, passed away early Friday morning, March 23, 2018, at her residence. She was the daughter of A.C. and Eva Dell Litton Bowling. She worked for a short time at Tennessee Eastman where she met the love of her life, G. Perry "Pete" Newman. They were married for over 60 years.
Ada's last employment was as a five state representative of Southeastern Lab Apparatus from North Augusta, South Carolina. She was a faithful member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, where she served in many areas. She was Secretary for the Johnson Memorial Sunday School class for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Perry Newman; brothers, Robert and Frank Bowling; sisters, Beulah Kate Bowen, Edith Lyon, and Nell Rhoton.
Ada is survived by her children, Deborah Ferraro and husband, Joseph, and George "Dusty" Newman, III; three sisters, Leola Olinger, Sue Carter, and Sylvia Tompkins; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A short memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with The Rev. Mr. J. Thomas Phillips of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church officiating. Music will be provided by Charlene Eastridge, Music Director. The committal service will be private.
