Agnes Deakins Alley, 91, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2019. Born in Chattanooga, TN, on February 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Rev. Moses E. and Leila Barker Deakins, she has resided in this area for the last 65 years. Agnes graduated from Hiwassee College and East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. She retired from Kingsport City Schools in 1987 following 25 years of service. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, a former Sunday School teacher, past President of The Women’s Society (Bible Studies), and a member of Greer Memorial Sunday School Class. Mrs. Alley will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, sister, and friend, who loved to read, sew, garden, walk, and was crazy about her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Joe Sommers Alley, Sr.; sisters, Dortha Kitts Christian; Trudy House; and brothers, Mitchell and Eldon Deakins.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Reverend Terry Alley Buckner and husband Michael of Wilmington, NC; son, Joe “Chip” Sommers Alley, Jr. of Kingsport, TN; two grandchildren, Amanda Buckner Ingraham and husband Ben of Holly Springs, NC; and Tyler H. Buckner of Durham, NC; sister, Pat Atchley of Madisonville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and the family of Sevier, First Broad Street United Methodist Church, and the neighbors at East Wood Hills.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow with Dr. Wm. Randall Frye officiating.
Burial will follow at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, Virginia.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful care at The Village at Allendale, and the family from John Sevier School who visited daily.
