Agnes Duncan Greene, 92, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, March 14, 2013, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Kingsport on October 6, 1920, a daughter of the late Oscar Charles Duncan, Sr., and Pearl Dillow Duncan, she had resided in this area her entire life. Agnes was a former teacher with the Sullivan County School System and a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, mamaw, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice G. Smith and siblings, Oscar C. Duncan, Jr., Ruth D. McMackin, Warren G. Duncan, Calvin "Pepsi" Duncan, Herbert "Lollie" Duncan and Clara D. Stacey.
Agnes is survived by her husband of 70 years, James Greene of the home; son, Jim Greene Kingsport; brother, Weldon Duncan of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Derrick Smith, Wendy Edwards and husband, Evan, Joel Smith and wife, Jennifer, Aaron Greene and Andrew Greene; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Indian Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Roc Collins and Dr. David Phillips officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those attending graveside services are asked to assemble at the graveside by 1:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Joel Smith, Derrick Smith, Aaron Greene, Andrew Greene, Evan Edwards, Jessee Clubb and Jonas Clubb.
