Agnes Lewis Helton

Agnes Lewis Helton, widow of William Woodward Helton, passed away January 28, 2009, at Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville, VA.

She was born in Erwin, Tennessee, a daughter of Margery Gilbert Lewis and David Houston Lewis. A graduate of Unicoi County High School, she married and moved to Kingsport, where she lived until moving to Virginia in 2006. Along with her husband, Agnes was a charter member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church, where she was an active member of the choir and Dorcas Circle. She retired from K-Mart, where she worked in the Domestics Dept. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed creative needle working.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lee Helton, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.

Agnes is survived by daughters Patricia Becker and husband Art of Charleston, SC; Linda Bergman and husband Alek of Ft. Defiance, VA; son Woodward C. Helton and wife Venita of Kingsport; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and faithful friend and neighbor, Scott Culbertson.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 11 am, Saturday January 31, at Hamlett Dobson's Kingsport Chapel, followed by a memorial service at noon with Marlin S. Jaynes, Jr, Minister and J. Edward Hayes, Minister officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin, TN.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations in Agnes' name may be given to either Oakwood Forest Christian Church Library, 1713 E. Sevier Ave., Kingsport, TN 37664, or to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
