Ailsie Rogan Straley,75, Kingsport, TN passed away Saturday June 28th due to a tragic car accident. Ailsie was born in Rogersville, Tennessee June 25, 1939. A graduate of Rogersville High School and Steed Business School, she was the founder and owner of Ailsie's Catering, which she owned for 35 years. Ailsie was a lifelong catholic and current member St. Dominics Catholic Church, Kingsport, Tennessee.
She was a member of various bridge clubs, The Long Island Sunbonnett Chapter of Questors, The Lunch Bunch, The Diversified Study Club, and local garden clubs. Ailsie was a board member of Friends of Allendale, Netherland Inn Association, and American Cancer Society. She was a tireless volunteer at Girls Incorporated, The Exchange Place, and Meals on Wheels, and was known for her kindness, hard work, dedication and generosity. Ailsie was involved with many other philanthropic ventures not listed here.
Ailsie was the daughter of Lance Wilson Rogan and Ruth Evans Rogan, granddaughter of Fredrick Heiskell Rogan and Ellen Purcell Wilson Rogan, and James Isaac Evans and Ada Francis Satchell Evans. She was the sister of James Heiskell Rogan, and Edward Wilson Rogan and daughter in-law of Dr. and Mrs. James Madison Straley.
Ailsie is survived by her husband, James Andrew Straley "Andy" of the home; son, James Andrew Straley II (Jim) and wife Selina of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Michael Lance Straley (Mike) and wife Ruth of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Christine Straley Burns and husband Jeff of Salem, Oregon; sisters and brothers, Ada Francis Rogan, of Rogersville, TN, Ruth Rogan Borden and husband Richard of Louisville, TN, Fredrick Lee Rogan and wife, Bonnie of Springfield, TN, and Michael Rogan and wife Carol of Rogersville, TN, sisters-in-law Judy Strong of Weber City, VA and Juanita James and husband Arnold Mack of West Nyack, NY; grandchildren; Austin Straley, John Straley, Daniel Straley, Benjamin Straley, Julia Straley, Nathaniel Burns, and Nicholas Burns; nieces and nephews, Amos Rogan and wife Rachel, Rebecca Rogan Peak, and husband Louis Peak, Jennifer Spence, Andrew Spence and wife Valerie, Neil Borden, Rachel Rogan; and many grand nieces, nephews and special cousins.
Visitation and Viewing on Wednesday July 2, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Kingsport, TN, on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Father Mike Nolan and Father Mike Cummings officiating, followed by a private burial in Rogersville, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Fred Rogan, Heiskell Phipps, Jeff Burns, Austin Straley, John Straley, Eric Carlson, George Toncray and Walter Riggins. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Rogan, Richard Borden, Neil Borden, Andrew Spence, and Amos Rogan.
