A.J. Thornburg, 86, Chuckey, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Greene County and was an elder and member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A.J. was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the VFW of Greeneville, TN. He had retired from Eastman Kodak following 33 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Thornburg; parents, Fred and Mary Thornburg; and several brothers and sisters.
A.J. is survived by his daughter, Diane Wear and husband, Gary; 2 sons, Ron Thornburg and Roger Thornburg; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Thornburg and wife, Lindsay, Brad Thornburg, and Braedon Wear; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Lochiel Staten; 2 brothers, Howard Thornburg and wife, Peggy, and Dwayne Thornburg and wife, Tammy; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the inclemency of the weather, services for A.J. Thornburg were canceled. The family will receive friends Friday, February 20, 2015 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wade McAmis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Boone Dam Post #4933.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
