Albert Dudley Parish, Sr., 86, of Kingsport, died Thursday morning, September 17, 2009 at 3:25 a.m. at Baysmont surrounded by his family. Born in Terre Haute, IN, he had resided in Sarasota, FL, from 1955 until 1975 when he moved to Boone, NC. During his retirement, he spent time in Palm Springs, CA. Al attended Purdue University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. He was in the 104th Timber Wolves Division and served in the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge. Al retired from Cornelius Beverage Company in 1975 after 25 years in sales. After retirement, he and his son, William, opened convenience markets in Western North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Parish, who died in 2008, and four sisters.
Al is survived by sons, Bill Parish and wife Patricia of Boone, NC, Dr. Greg Parish of Arcata, CA, and Albert Parish and wife Jeanne of Arden, NC; four grandchildren, Jeremy Todd Parish, Vanessa Katherine Parish, Kara Alyse Parish, and Gabriel Cole Parish; two great-grandchildren, Alex White and Aiden White; sister, Shirley Ennis and husband Jack of Terre Haute, IN; several nieces and nephews.
Al's wish was to be cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
