Alberta Tate Bowen, 84, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 after several years of declining health.
Born in Roda, Virginia, she had lived in Sullivan County most of her life. Mrs. Bowen attended Sullivan High School and worked in the yarn plant at Tennessee Eastman Company before becoming a full time homemaker. She served as a leader in the Girl Scouts and was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert Houston and Martha Tate; her husband, Haywood Bowen; one sister, Jewell Blevins; one brother, James Tate; and one grandson, Robert Yarbrough.
Surviving are two daughters, Vickie Yarbrough, Kingsport and Frances Bowen, Charlotte, NC; one son, Joey Bowen and wife Jo, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Katherine Yarbrough, Andy Bowen, Adam Bowen, Sarah Bowen, and Hillary Smith; sisters, Ruby Reddick, Knoxville, TN; Merle Tate, Kingsport; and Virgie Hardesty, Kingsport; brothers, Kelles Tate, Paul Tate, and Dean Tate, all of Kingsport; one sister-in-law, Mae Tate, Kingsport; one brother-in-law, Archer M. Blevins, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen Burkhart officiating.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
