Alfred "Al" L. Hester, 84, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 after a brief illness.
He is survived by his current wife of twenty-two years, Jean Leonard Hester. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-three years, Katherine Hyatt Hester, with whom he had three surviving children; Al Hester Jr. (Birmingham, AL), Sandy Hester Miller (Richmond, VA), Susan Hester Wilson and husband, Kevin (Greenville, SC). Alfred is also survived by two step-children, Alan Leonard Jr. and Spencer Leonard; and six grandchildren, Dallas Miller, Michael Miller, William Hester, Matthew Hester, Danielle Wilson and Orson Leonard.
Condolences and memories may be shared with the family on Thursday July 16th from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 200 W Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660, with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Al served in the Air Force during the Korean War and spent multiple years in Germany serving his country. He spent a combined thirty-eight year career with Mason-Dixon Trucking and then Central Transport. He worked in just about every aspect of the trucking business, with many years leading National account sales. He was a skilled salesman and well known for his sense of humor and wit.
Al greatly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He spent all of his free time working on home projects for family and friends. He was extremely active until a few weeks before his death and enjoyed participating in activities such as Meals on Wheels.
