Alfred E. "Specks" Kennedy, 74, of Kingsport, died Tuesday night, December 7, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Jenkins, KY, he had resided in the Long Island community of Kingsport most of his life. Specks retired from J. P. Stevens after 34 years as a forklift operator. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ichobod and Nellie Kennedy.
Specks is survived by a daughter, Dona Faye Kennedy and Glen Fritz, of Kingsport; a son, Edward Scott Kennedy and wife, Melissa, also of Kingsport; the mother of his children, Betty Light Melear; five grandchildren, Daniel Leroy and wife, Julie, Garrett Leroy and wife, Darhonda, Jennifer Smith and husband, Jamie, Carla Kennedy, and Tyler Kennedy; two step-grandchildren, Lisa Seymour and Josh Roller; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Korry, Danielle, Bryndin, Cayden, and Kiley; five step-great-grandchildren, Tia, Thomas, Camyrn, Cassy, and Aron; two sisters, Ann Clark and husband, Jim, IN, and Brenda Stanford and husband, Jim, Baltimore, MD; a brother, Bill Kennedy, Baltimore, MD; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend of Specks and the family, Diane Crawford.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00, with J.C. Riner and Ellis Roberson officiating. Granddaughter-in-law, Darhonda Leroy will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Fall Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Garrett Leroy, Daniel Leroy, Tyler Kennedy, Roy Ramey, Jr., Ronald Ramey, Ben Pierce, and Chad Horton.
