Alfred "Blackjack" Long, 78, of Kingsport, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011.
Blackjack was born in Claiborne County, TN and later moved to Kingsport where he resided most of his life. He attended Arnolds Chapel Church. Blackjack worked at the Eastman Chemical Company most of his life. He loved to whittle while listening to and singing gospel music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gwendolyn; son Pete; two sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include seven children: James Long and wife, Charlene, Trisha Perkins, Helen Long, David Long and wife, Lisa, Jack Long and wife, Debra, Jerry Long and wife, Lori, and Scott Long, all of Kingsport; daughter-in-law Gayla of Kingsport; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Lett of Johnson City and Billie Long of Baltimore, MD, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will begin at 6pm with Rev. Roy Brickey officiating. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 pm at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
