Allen A. Compton

Allen A. Compton, 75, Kingsport, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016, after a courageous battle with dementia surrounded by his family. He was born in Greene County and resided in Kingsport since childhood. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School class of '60. Allen was active in sports and was captain of the football team. He was an employee of Eastman and retired in 1996 from the Acid Division. He was a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church, an active member of the Adult Sunday School class, and he served on various committees until his illness. He was a member of Optimist Club of Sullivan Gardens where he had served as president. He was involved in several youth sports, especially baseball. He loved to watch Big Orange sports. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Leona Compton, and two brothers, Gary and James.

Allen is survived by his wife, Lotus Jean Hall Compton of Kingsport; two sons, Mark Compton and wife, LaDonna of Kingsport, and Brad Compton and wife, Nicky of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Bo, Abigail, Makkenzie, Archer, and Jakkcee; two sisters, Linda Nottingham and husband, Charles of Georgia, and Diane Davis and husband, Jerry of Mississippi; three brothers, Melvin Compton of Kingsport, Roger Compton of Kingsport, and Michael Compton and wife, Trish of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 pm on Tuesday at Rock Springs United Methodist Church. The service will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Buddy Butler and Rev. Regina Shelton officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Andrew Compton, Austin Compton, Bo Compton, Brian Ward, Brian Irvin, and David Sherfey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bert Carter and Paul Chapman.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Springs United Methodist Church, 227 Rock Springs Dr., Kingsport, TN 37664.
