Allen Ray McConnell, 78, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday morning, August 5, 2016, at his home. Born in War, WV, he had resided in Kingsport since 1969. Allen served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He had an Associates Degree in Electronics and had retired from Sperry in Bristol. Hobbies included stained glass, skeet shooting, fishing and bowling. Allen was a member of Nottingham United Methodist Church in Gate City, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Dorothea McConnell; brother, Dallas McConnell; sister, Hazel Allegrini; and brother-in-law, James Billups.
Allen is survived by his wife, Betty McConnell of the home; special nephew, Tim Elliott and wife, Jeanne of Blountville, their children Erin of Kingsport, Matthew and wife, Stephanie and son, Drew Young of Blountville; sister, Helen Billups of Essex, MD; niece, Debbie Malinowski and husband, Mike of Parkville, MD; great-nephews, Matthew Malinowski and wife, Amy and their children Amber and Adam, and Michael Malinowski and wife, Elizabeth and their son, Mark of Nottingham, MD; and great-niece, Melissa Burkhardt and husband, Andrew and their children, Chase and Landon of Parkville, MD.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Nottingham United Methodist Church. The memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Bill Porter and Pastor Della Walker officiating.
Burial will follow at McConnell Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia, with military honors provided by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Food will be provided by Nottingham United Methodist Church following the burial.
