Almira Parks Anderson, 84, of Kingsport, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at her home.

Almira was born in Lexington, KY on July 25, 1924. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and came to Kingsport in 1951.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Kingsport and was very active in the Music Program and also Baptist Women. She played the piano as a volunteer at Asbury Center, Madison House, and other nursing homes.

Almira was a caring person who reached out to many people in her walk through life. She had the gift of hospitality and opened up her home and kitchen to friends and family. Her love for the Lord was evident in all she did.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Lula Parks; and brother, Frank Parks.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Anderson; three sons, Frank Lewis and wife Graca of Greensboro, NC, David Lewis of Atlanta, GA, John Lewis and wife Paige of Charlotte, NC; two step-daughters, Susan Kalan of Orange, VA and Martyne Kostka of Cape Cod, MA; sister-in-law, Margaret Parks of Owensboro, KY; three granddaughters, Amy, Rebecca and Rachel Lewis; three grandsons, Taylor, Preston and Parks Lewis; six step-grandchildren, Brooke, Erin and Dana Kalan, Kathleen, Abigayle and Mamie Kostka.

The family wants to thank Dr. Richard Reed and his staff for their kind and considerate care in dealing with Mrs. Anderson's declining health issues. The family also appreciates the loving care and special friendship shown to "Granny" by her caregiver, Tanisha "Nikkie" Onishi.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Kingsport with Dr. Marvin Cameron, Dr. Ron Davis, and Rev. Mitchell M. Whisnant officiating.

Burial will be at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Koinonia Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Kingsport.
