Alton Brown Howle passed away May 8, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Cleburne County, Alabama on November 12, 1917 to William H. Howle and Minnie McKenzie Howle. He had 12 brothers and sisters. Alton loved people and he enjoyed gardening, storytelling and golf.
Alton worked for Pet Dairy Milk Company for many years as a route supervisor. After retirement he worked for the City of Burlington, NC as a building inspector. He was known for many years in Burlington as "Bama".
In 1940 he moved to Burlington, NC and resided there for over 65 years before moving to Kingsport, TN to be near his sons. In the short time here, he made many friends. He and his wife Fannie were married for over 76 years before her death in 2013.
He was preceded in death by 11 siblings, his parents and his wife Fannie.
Alton is survived by two sons: William Howle and wife, Betty, Michael Howle and wife, Liza; sister: Mary Cobb of Sherwood, AR; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and cremation service in Burlington, NC. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015.
Pallbearers will be Bryan DeMotts, great-grandsons: William Howle, Henry Howle, and Charles Howle.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
