Alvin H. McDavid, 80, of Kingsport passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, at Life Care Center of Gray.
Alvin was born in Sullivan County where he lived his entire life. He was a former employee of Holston Auto Parts, Kingsport Auto Parts, and City Auto Parts. He then worked for the Sullivan County Sherriff's Office, retiring in 1995. Alvin was an avid NASCAR fan and was a former race car owner. He was of the Baptist faith.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Ellen McDavid; first wife Mildred McDavid; step son Sam Jessee; brother Howard McDavid; three sisters, Nellie McPeters, Betty Davenport, and Linda Louise McDavid.
Survivors include his wife Beulah McDavid of Kingsport; children, Reece Christian and wife, Lisa of Blountville; Michael McDavid and wife, Tonya of Bristol, TN, Richard McDavid of Blountville, Phyllis Cole; step children, Della Bishop and husband, Randy of Kingsport, Debbie Keene and husband, Gary of Kingsport, Mike Jessee and wife, Charlene of Kingsport; sisters, Mildred Arnold of Kingsport, Charlotte Neeley and husband, Willie of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Willie Neeley officiating. Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
