Alys M. Ferguson, 74, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 after an extended illness.
Born in Bristol, TN on November 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Virginia Barr. As a child, she enjoyed spending time at her father's store, Barr's Sporting Goods.
Mrs. Ferguson graduated from Tennessee High School and received her bachelor degree from East Tennessee State University. She taught at Holston Valley High School, White Wood High School, Ketron High School, and Ketron Middle School. After retirement, Mrs. Ferguson co-owned and operated American Classics and Collectibles where she enjoyed her time working there until her illness.
She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Ferguson; and uncle, Ed Barr.
She is survived by her son, Rob Ferguson and wife Suzanne, Kingsport; two granddaughters, Taylor and Caitlin Ferguson; one brother, Robert "Bud" Barr and wife Jane, Bristol, TN; very special aunt, "that was like a mother", Mary Barr, Bristol, TN' two nephews; and a host of friends and students whose lives she had touched during her teaching career.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol VA.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
