Amelia Dyson Segars, 84, of Kingsport, TN went home Friday, June 20, 2014 at Elmcroft of Kingsport Senior Living Community.
Born in Lodge, SC, Amelia raised her family with Henry Dyson, her husband of 40 years in Walterboro, SC. After his death, she continued to serve the Lord as nurse, caregiver and teacher at First Baptist Church. There she met Lt. Col. Judson Segars, retired Army chaplain. They were married in Kingsport, TN in 2002 and later moved to Kingsport where they were active at First Baptist Church. She led a full and wonderful life, loved and was loved by many, and was ready to go home to be with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O'Neal and Grace Fralix; husband of 40 years, Henry Lee Dyson and daughter, Hazel Lee Ridgeway.
Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Lt. Col. Judson Segars; son Henry "Sparky" Dyson and wife, Gail; grandchildren, Henry Dyson V and wife, Melissa, Angie Allman and husband, Nathan and Heath Dyson; five great-grandchildren and her sister, Gloria Brown and husband Ken.
There will be two services. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 23 from 4-5 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with the service to follow at 5 p.m. Pastor Doug Tweed will be officiating.
A second service will be held on Wednesday, June 25 with visitation from 2-3 p.m. at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro, South Carolina with the service to follow at 3 p.m. Her nephew, Pastor Jerry Lewis will be officiating. Graveside services to follow at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
