Amy Jane Reichert Ladley of Kingsport passed away peacefully Sunday, April 10, 2016. She was 97 years old. Amy was born in Portland Oregon on May 18, 1918 to William Stephenson Reichert and Ruth Bishop. She was a princess of the Portland Rose Parade prior to attending Whitman College where, in addition to excelling in her academic studies, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and a pianist for the college. This is where she met her future husband, Herbert Vern Ladley. They were married in Yuma Arizona in 1944.
While her husband was serving in WWII, Amy worked as an administrative assistant in purchasing for Lockheed Corporation. Later she completed her MED from the George Washington University in childhood remedial reading. Amy put her heart and soul into everything she did including serving as a dedicated military wife, homemaker, loyal friend to many, reading specialist and successful real estate agent.
Her hobbies included playing golf, a game she loved to share with others, sponsoring multiple junior golf events, sewing, reading, traveling and playing games with her grandchildren. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player which she enjoyed well into her nineties at the Kingsport Senior Center. She was involved with the Retired officers Association of the Tri-Cities and enjoyed cooking for the Kingsport Meals on Wheels and was a life-long supporter of KKG sorority.
Amy leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 71 years, Captain Herbert V Ladley; two daughters, Jane Stentzel and her husband Larry of Wilmington, NC and Amy Bebout and her husband Dr. Robert of Fort Smith, AR; one son, Dr Herbert Ladley and his wife Kathy of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Amy Bebout Cromer and her husband Paul-Andrew, Molly Bebout Little and her husband TJ, Herbert V. Ladley, Ross L. Ladley, David Butt-Ostis and wife Stacey; and two great granddaughters, Annabella and Chloe Ostis.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11 o'clock at First Broad Street United Methodist Church of Kingsport with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating.
The family wishes to thank all her devoted and loving caregivers, especially the staff of Wexford House and Comfort Keepers.
