Ancel P. Carmack

Ancel P. Carmack, 95, of Kingsport, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

He was born in Kingsport, March 23, 1924. He attended Kingsport City Schools and Jacksonville, FL Junior College.

He spent four and one-half years in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded in Germany, March 17, 1945, while serving with the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion – 4th Armored Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

He was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and a life member of both the DAV and the VFW.

He retired from Kingsport Press-Arcata Graphics as Composition Pricing Analyst after 41 years service.

Preceding him in death were: his wife of 61 ½ years, Eva Carmack; parents, O.P. and Belle Carmack; sister Beulah Blakley and husband Si; and sister Kathleen Corley and husband Grady.

Surviving are his daughter, Carole Carmack; granddaughter, Andrea Payne and husband, Alex; a most beloved great-granddaughter, Eva Payne; brother Hal Carmack and wife, Kathy; special extended family members, Dewey Lewis, John Lewis, and Linda Payne; and good friend Bill Shumate.

There will be no formal visitation, but condolences may be shared online at www.hamlettdobson.com, or friends may pay their respects anytime at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019, at East Lawn Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Posts 3/265.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Valerie Wilson and the staff of the VA Geriatrics Clinic, to the nurses and staffs of the VA Hospital and the Franklin Woods Community Hospital, and greatest thanks to the staff of Brookdale Johnson City for their kindness and compassion as his very special caregivers and friends in the Clare Bridge Memory Care facility.
