Andy Brooks, 65, Kingsport, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 23, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a lifelong member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Andy was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and ETSU where he was a member of the winning 1969 Grantland Rice Bowl by defeating Louisiana Tech 34-14. He also enjoyed baseball, dirt bikes, racquetball, jet skiing, snow skiing, fishing and spending time on the lake. He always was quick to greet you with a smile and share a good joke. Andy was known to play as hard as he worked. In his professional career as a commercial developer he contributed to the growth of the city he loved, Kingsport, TN. Andy was most passionate about his family, friends and most important, his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jane Brooks, and brother-in-law, Frank Carver.
Andy is survived by his wife, Missy Brooks; three daughters, Hannah Brooks, Carly Brooks, and Maci Brooks; two sons, Victor Brooks, and Tyler Brooks and Melissa Stoffa; two grandchildren, Brody and Edynn; three sisters, Greer Brooks Mayer and husband, Chuck, Dorothy Brooks Shepherd and husband, Don, and Becky Brooks Carver; brother, Charlie Brooks and wife, Patsy; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm with The Rev. Mickey Rainwater and The Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Fred Whitson, Doug Taylor, Bill Peake, Billy Young, Foster Odom, Jim Moorleghen, Cecil Pigford, Jim Baxter, Wayne Bailey, and Jeff Jeter.
