Rebecca Ann Davenport, 81, Gate City, VA, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She was born January 21, 1928, in Sullivan County, TN, to Virgie and Florida Crawford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Davenport; sister, Mary Jennings; son, Ronnie Davenport; and granddaughter, Bethany Davenport.
Surviving are her four daughters, Sandra Jones and husband Steve, Kathy Osborne and husband Sid, Judy Dorton and husband Bill, and Peggy Sanders and husband Charles; one son, Nicky Davenport; twelve grandchildren, Tracy Bartley, Wendy Ervin, Amy Hulse, Kimberly Snead, Holly Davenport, Harley Dorton, Brandon Dorton, Eliza Speer, Nicole Valdez, Rusty Davenport, Natasha Davenport, and Wesley Fleming; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Menyfea Crawford and wife Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Chuck Grimm officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harley Dorton, Brandon Dorton, Rusty Davenport, Bill Dorton, Caleb Massey, Gary Crumbley and Derrick Crumbley.
