Ann Cornett, life long, faithful servant of her master, Jesus Christ, went into eternal rest with Him early Thursday morning, April 23, 2015. She was born to Clyde and Allie Wheatley in April, 1925, in Wise, VA where she resided through her high school years. After graduating from Wise High School as Valedictorian of her class, she moved to the Kingsport, TN area, where she made her permanent residence and met the love of her life, Ed Cornett, whom she married after his discharge from the US Navy at the end of WWII.
Ann lived a life of selfless devotion and service to her husband and her two sons. Above all, she worked faithfully for her Lord Jesus Christ, sacrificing herself for Him.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Allie Bruce Wheatley, her husband, Edwin L. Cornett, brothers, Kyle Wheatley, Robert Wheatley and Glen Flanary; and sisters, Gladys Wheatley Hamilton, Pauline Wheatley Crowder, and Helen Flanary Francis.
Ann leaves behind to cherish her life, two sons, Randy Cornett of Sandy Springs, GA, and Bob Cornett and wife, Linda of Kingsport; granddaughter, Carrie Carpenter and husband, Todd of Kingsport; and two great-granddaughters, Ellie and Anna Carpenter. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Sarah Flanary Ketron and husband, Lester of Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express the highest regards and compliments to the staff of Cardiac Step Down unit of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and to their attending ER personnel whose dedication and care preserved our mother's dignity through this difficult time and gave us immeasurable comfort.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-7:00 pm at Heritage First Church of God, and at any time at the family's home, 318 Westminister Place, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Steve Tilley, Pastor Carroll Light and Dr. Gene Miller officiating. Music will be provided by Mark Stayton and Carrie Carpenter.
The graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park.
