Anna Lee Fields Martin, 75, of Knoxville, entered Heaven on Thursday, December 14, 2017, peacefully after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare neurodegenerative disease. Anna was a member of West Knoxville Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Anna was always the caregiver that never stopped caring - the glue that held everything together. Anna loved to work in her yard doing landscaping and was an avid sports fan, and loved to cheer on her beloved Vols. She retired after 34 years of service from Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL). She previously worked for the Kingsport Press (where she met her beloved husband). She loved her Lord and Savior, and her faith was a witness for all to see as she never wavered throughout her progressive and debilitating illness. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren become young adults and parents themselves, passing on her humble and caring qualities to her great-grandchildren. Anna leaves a legacy of deep and abiding love for Jesus and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Martin; parents, Ransom and Edna Fields; and three brothers, who passed in infancy.
She leaves her children, son, Steve Martin (wife Robin) of Dacula, Georgia; and daughter, Donna Gardner (husband John) of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jennifer Dickey of Mt Juliet, Tennessee, Matt Martin (wife Sarah) of Rockville, Maryland, Leah Collins (husband Casey) of Dacula, Georgia, and Christopher Dickey of Knoxville, Tennessee; one great-granddaughter, Adalyn Collins; and three great-grandsons, Elias and Brennan Martin and Camden Collins; sister, Patsy Cox of Mt Juliet, Tennessee; and brother, Martin Fields (wife Patricia) of Ontario, California; many extended family & special friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday December 18, 2017, at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home of Kingsport, Tennessee, with services starting at 11 a.m with Pastor Austin Gardner officiating.
Graveside internment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her in-home caregivers, Amber Thornton, Karrie Cowan, and Tammy Tinker as well as the comfort care nursing staff at Parkwest Medical Hospital for all their love and compassionate care shown to Anna throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CurePSP https://www.psp.org.
