Anna Lucille Dykes, 91, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2017, after succumbing to a long illness at the home of her daughter. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Lucille was loved by all who knew her. She loved to cook big meals and enjoyed watching them eat. She learned to square dance and enjoyed it for several years. Lucille loved to embroider and did it through the years until her eye sight would not let her do it. She was always very loving and protective of her family. Lucille was known for her great love of family and her wonderful laugh. Everyone loved to hear her and brother Gene talk about their childhood. She was a member of Bloomingdale Missionary Baptist Church. Lucille was a Gold Star Mother and she rode in the July 4th parade every year in honor of Lance Corporal William F. Dykes driven by Hamlett-Dobson staff. The family greatly appreciates her loving caregiver, Yvonne Hampton of Home Instead. They had a special bond. Sandra Lee a friend of her daughter loved her. She called her "Moma." The family would like to thank Avalon Hospices for their help, especially RN Daniel and CNA Rhonda.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Katie Mae Gregg; husband, Earl V. Dykes; son, Lance Corporal William F. Dykes; sisters, Pearl Holland, Pauline Smith, Eula Mae Hawk; brothers, Eugene Gregg; Edward Gregg; infant brothers, LV Gregg and Frank Gregg, Jr.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Betty Jane Dykes of Kingsport; sons, Donald H. Dykes and wife Kathy of Natchitoches, LA; Charles E. Dykes of Kingsport, and Thomas B. Dykes and wife Toni of Kingsport; nine grandchildren, Alex McDonald, Stephanie Ward, Dana Chadick, Donna Penrod, Dinah Herndon, Chris Dykes, Kevin Dykes, Christopher Dykes, and Christina Dykes; fourteen great-grandchildren, Amanda Long, Robert McDonald, Brittany Vallery, Kelsie Ward, Ashley Smith, Madeline Taylor, Caitlyn Taylor, Anna Claire Taylor, Dylan Penrod, Grace Lucille Penrod, Rae Lynn Dykes, Jullian Dykes, Xander Dykes, and Serina Dykes; four great-great grandchildren, Bradin Smith, Landon Smith, Austin Vallery, Mason Vallery, and sister, Mary Nell Cox, Kingsport, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those attending services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:00 am and then proceed to the cemetery.
