Anne Bright Bradford

Anne Bright Bradford, 82, of Kingsport, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at Asbury Place. She was born in Abingdon, VA, and had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School where she was active in extracurricular activities. She graduated from ETSU with BA and MA degrees in English, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She also had additional hours working on a Ph.D. from University of Georgia, Athens. She taught at Manatee Junior College and Milligan College. Later she was Supervisor of Language Arts in the Johnson City School System. She retired as an English teacher from Science Hill High School.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingsport, for many years, where she sang in the Adult Choir and taught several different Sunday School classes and was active in various Women's Groups. She then transferred her membership to Indian Springs Baptist Church after moving to the Indian Springs Community.

Mrs. Bradford was Past National President of the Southern Dames of America and Past Regent of the Long Island Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Johnson City Book Club, the Virginia Club, and Patrick Henry Allied Families of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Kyle Bright, Sr., and Velma Jamison Bright, and a brother, B. K. Bright, Jr.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Bradford and wife Louise and grandchildren, Stephen and Hannah Bradford, Gaithersburg, MD; special niece, Judith Hall and husband Jim, Kingsport, TN; great nieces and nephews Andy Hall and wife Julie, Kitchener, Ontario, Ashley Bellamy and husband Greg, Harrisonburg, VA, Adam Hall and wife Rachel, Blountville, TN; former husband and friend, Thomas Maxwell Bradford, Mobile, AL.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Indian Springs Baptist Church, with Dr. Roc Collins and Mike Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver, Lisa Perry.
