Anthony A. Mejia, Jr., 56, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 7th following a brief illness. He is a native of San Antonio, TX, when his family moved to Greene County in 1974. Tony was the son of an active military officer and he saw the world. He continued the family tradition by proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Tony received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from ETSU. Before his sickness he was an adjunct faculty for Northeast State Community College and worked for Bristol Compressor in Bristol, VA. He attended Fairhaven Baptist Church.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony A. Mejia, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Narcisso and Elvira Mejia; and maternal grandparents, Harvey and Martha Kirkpatrick.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Connie Thornburg Mejia; son, Shaun Mejia; mother, Barbara Mejia; sisters, Angel Jennings and husband, Albert of Chuckey, TN, and April Lawson and husband, Clyde of Fall Branch, TN: four nephews; one niece; one great-nephew; and special cousin, Bobby Gass.
Friends may call anytime after 11:00 am on Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 10th at 1:00 pm at Fairhaven Baptist Church, 108 Fairhaven Dr., Johnson City, TN with Dr. Farrell Osborne, Pastor Roby Osborne and Brother William Jennings officiating. The body will lie in state from 12:00-1:00pm at the church.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 13385 Kingsport Highway, Chuckey, TN. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Albert Jennings, William Jennings, Robert Jennings, Chris Gass, Greg Lawson and Shaun Mejia.
