Arvel Parks Walsh, 94, of Kingsport, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Asbury Center at Baysmont.
A native of Johnson County and a graduate of Johnson County High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army on November 14, 1941, and served as sergeant and technician third grade in the Service Ordinance 8th Service Command and the Headquarters Company Service of supply in China. Before his discharge on February 4, 1946, his tour of duty included service in India and China. He was decorated for service with the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, AP Theatre Ribbon, Bronze Star Medal, China War Memorial Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Before his retirement in 1976, he worked as Service Manager at Duffer-Taylor Tire Service in Kingsport.
Mr. Walsh was a member of Doe Valley Methodist Church in Mountain City, Tennessee and later a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church in Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roby and Radar Greenwell Walsh; two brothers, Ray Odell Walsh and Alfred Delno Walsh; two sisters, Frances Jones and Pearl Wilson.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Golda Jordan Walsh; two daughters, Carolyn Walsh Carter and her husband, Milton of Unicoi, TN, Marilyn Walsh Lewis and her husband, Rick of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Justin Lewis and Emily Lewis; a sister, Peggy Walsh; a brother, Harry Walsh and wife, Mary Ann of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Mountain City with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating and military rites by Johnson County Honor Guard.
