Audrey McCaskill, 95 of Kingsport, Tennessee (formerly of Lewiston, New York), passed away peacefully on September 22, 2013. Audrey was born on March 30, 1918 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Annie Laura Grey-Symons Dorsey and Josiah Joshua Dorsey. She attended Hamilton Central Collegiate Institute (HCCI), Hamilton Normal School (teacher's college) and completed her permanent teaching certificate with classes at McMaster University.
Audrey was the first Regent of the first chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire to be organized in Hamilton, Ontario. She was also a teacher at the Lloyd George Public School in Hamilton. In the summers she was a playground supervisor/camp counselor at the YWCA and with the Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT)a"an activities program for young women whose purpose is learning to cherish health, seek truth, know God and serve others. Audrey was a member of the Melrose United Church in Hamilton where she taught Sunday school, had a CGIT group and worked with the youth fellowship.
In 1944 she married Kenneth McCaskill III, an electrical engineer who at the time was apprenticing with Canadian Westinghouse. Ken and Audrey moved to Niagara Falls, Canada where Audrey taught at Maple Avenue School. In 1948 she moved to Lewiston, New York where she became a member of the Niagara Falls Service League and the First Presbyterian Church. As a devoted church member she served as an elder, deacon and on the Presbyterian Women Boards. Audrey enjoyed floral design, arranging the altar flowers at the First Presbyterian Church for over forty years and working at Harris & Lever Florist.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents Josiah Joshua Dorsey and Annie Laura Grey-Symons Dorsey, stepmother Helen Henderson Dorsey, husband Kenneth McCaskill III, son Kenneth McCaskill IV, sister Laura Evelyn Dahlin, brothers Lloyd Alexander Dorsey and Robert Edmund Dorsey. She is survived by her daughter Mary Elizabeth McCaskill (Mizzy), her sister-in-law Florence Kathleen Riley and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga Street, Lewiston, with the Rev. Elizabeth Morgan officiating. Entombment will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston Columbarium.
