The Lord called Austin “Pappy” Adams, 89, of Gate City, home, Tuesday, July 30, 2019. He was born in Greene County, Tennessee, and has lived in this area most of his life. Austin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from AFG after 42 years of service. Austin surrendered his life to the Lord in salvation as a young child. He was a member of Poplar Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lucille Adams; first wife, Shirley Wells Adams; second wife, Mary Gibson Adams; and sister, Reece Lovelace.
Austin is survived by his two daughters, Rita Adams Neeley, Dawn Adams Hill and husband Brian; one son, Tony Adams and wife Molly; grandchildren, Michelle Hill Yeary and husband Jack, Amey N. Hagy and husband Jason, Megan N. Hill and husband Micah, Lydia Adams, Austin Adams, Andrew Adams, Channing Adams, Matthew Adams; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob, Joshua, Lilly, Aidan, Kaylee, Bryson; brother, Don Adams; several nieces and nephews; two stepsons, David Carrico and wife Kim, and Mickey Carrico and wife Shelia; grandchildren, Sherrika and Justin Carrico; and great granddaughter, Lexie Carrico.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Poplar Grove Primitive Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Elder Oscar Irvin officiating.
Burial will follow at Poplar Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Jason Hagy.
