Ava Smith, 98, of Asbury Center at Baysmont in Kingsport, went to be with the Lord this week.
She graduated from high school in Appalachia, Virginia, Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Emory University in Atlanta with a B.S. degree in Library Science. She retired from Mountain Home V.A. Medical Center in 1973 as Chief of Library Service after 30 years of service. Ms. Smith was a lifelong member of First Methodist Church in Appalachia.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Elliott and Ethel Smith; a sister, Sue Smith; and a brother, Henry Smith.
Surviving are one brother, Charles Smith and wife, Jenny of Memphis, TN; three nieces, Linda Kuiken and husband Garry of Floyd, Virginia, Sandra Smith of Kingsport, Debbie Fain and husband Dale of Dandridge, TN; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and a cousin, Joanne Jones and husband Ernest of Lafollette, TN.
There will be a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. John Bardsley officiating.
