Avia W. Mowdy Adams

Avia W. Mowdy Adams, 94, of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with Jesus Saturday, January 6, 2018. She was born August 3, 1923 to the late Simon and Anna Belle Sherffey Mowdy. She was saved at age 18 and baptized by Rev. Ralph Cook. She was a long time member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where she faithfully attended while she was able. Avia loved her church family and The Lord. It showed in her life. She was a Godly, wonderful, loving, and caring mommy, grandma, and great-grandma. She loved reading her Bible, quilting, sewing, making crafts, cooking, flower gardening, and her dolls. Avia loved her family and enjoyed being with them. The joy of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. Thomas Adams; daughter-in-law, Brenda Adams; son-in-law, Carl Hite; and several siblings.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving and devoted daughter, Shirley Hite; daughter, Christine Overbay and husband Benny; son, Wayne Adams; grandchildren, Jennifer Ward and husband Jonathan, Brian Overbay and wife Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Megan and Macey Ward, Zachary and Dylan Overbay; and several siblings.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Graveside services will be private at East Lawn.

Pallbearers will be Brian Overbay, Zachary Overbay, Dylan Overbay, Jonathan Ward, J.C. Martin, and DeWayne Bowen.

Flowers are certainly appreciated, but it would also please the family if donations were made to the radio broadcast at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Dr, Kingsport, TN 37664.
