Barbara Blackburn Richardson, 87, of Kingsport, passed away early Friday morning, December 3, 2010 following a very brief illness. A native of Scott County, she grew up in the Nottingham Community. She went to work for Tennessee Eastman Company at age 18 where she worked full-time for 44 years. She then worked another 21 years part-time having retired in November 2009. Barbara was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.L. and Mable Blackburn; husband, Sturm Richardson; three sisters, Norma B. Odum, Yvonne B. Carter, and Jeannette B. Tomlinson.
Survivors include her siblings: Thomas Blackburn and wife, Mary Lee of Blountville; Frank Blackburn and wife, Eva of Williston, SC.; "Byrd" O.L. Blackburn and wife, Shirley of Hiltons, VA.; Ruth Fugate of Hiltons, VA.; Christine Jones of Gate City, VA.; Joe Blackburn and wife, Nina of Maryville, TN.; Roberta Stewart of Tampa, FL.; and Keith Blackburn of Gate City, VA.; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. The service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Dr. Greg Burton officiating. A private, family graveside service will be held Wednesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory, to the charity of one's choice.
