Bart Steven Gillis

Bart Steven Gillis, 61, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2020. 

Bart was born on April 11, 1959 in Sullivan County, TN to Bob and Betty Gillis. He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Jack Gillis.

Bart was an All-State football athlete during his time at Sullivan West High School (graduating class of 1977), as well as a track and basketball athlete. He loved the outdoors; Bays Mountain Park and the Gillis family homestead in Rocky Fork, TN were two of his favorite places.

He was an avid storyteller, a gifted artist, and general lover of knowledge. His quick wit and intelligence warranted that he was often the life of the party. He loved his family dearly. 

Bart leaves many behind to cherish his memory: mother, Betty Gillis, of Kingsport; sisters, Tamera Gillis, and fiancé, Pat Shanks, of Kingsport; Tracey Gillis Andrews, of Knoxville; daughter, Brittany Gilli-Williams, and husband, Jared, of Johnson City; son, Grant Gillis, and fiancé, Rebeccca Schwepfiner, of Johnson City; and 3 beloved grandchildren, Piper Williams, Darcy Williams, and Caedmon Williams; as well as several nieces. 

The family will hold a private remembrance on Saturday, November 28 at 1pm.
