Becky Cowden, 96, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Asbury Place, Kingsport, TN. Born October 1, 1915 in Wise County, Virginia, she moved to Kingsport from Norton, Virginia.
She was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church in Kingsport. She was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women, and Mafair Quilters.
Becky enjoyed traveling, having visited 48 states, Europe and the Virgin Islands. She retired from Kingsport Press after 47 years of employment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Cowden and Ora Faye Allen Cowden; three sisters and one brother.
Becky is survived by sisters, Joan Weatherly and husband Sam of Gray, TN, Jane Morgan Armstrong and Arnold Durrant of Kingsport; and brother, James F. Cowden of Kingsport. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
The family of Becky will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mafair United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Kim Goddard officiating.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank the staff and CNAs of Asbury for their professional and loving care of Becky.
