Beecher J. Holland passed to eternal rest at his residence on October 4, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was a loving and caring husband, dad, granddaddy, uncle, and friend to everyone he ever met, and could always make you laugh.
Beecher was a native of Big Stone Gap, VA, born on June 14, 1927. He graduated from Big Stone Gap High School, Bluefield College, Bluefield, VA, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, VA. He was a WWII Army veteran.
Beecher retired from Holston Defense Corporation, Kingsport, TN, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Rhodes Holland, Sr., and Laura Alverta Neeley Holland; and a brother, William Rhodes Holland, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Anna B. Slemp Holland, to whom he had been married 56 years; loving daughter and caregiver, Amy Holland Wagner and husband, David C. Wagner; granddaughters, Leanna Hope Wagner and Ashley DeeAnn Wagner. Also surviving is his nephew, William Geoffrey Holland and wife, Patty, and daughter, Grace; nieces Holly and Sandy Holland, Stephanie Slemp Fee, husband, Lynn, son, Aaron and daughter, Rachel, and Lynn Slemp and son, Jessee Short; several cousins; and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, on Thursday beginning at 6:00 p.m. Services will be conducted at 7:30, with Russ Pearson and Mark Davis officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA, on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
A special thank you to Brook Fischer, Beecher's Hospice nurse during the last couple of months of his illness, and to other caregivers during that time, Sheila, Paula, Donna, Sharon, and Mary, and to Kimberly Meade, nurse, following a recent hospitalization.
