Ben H. Kinkead, Jr., 86, of Kingsport, went home to Jesus on Friday, December 26, 2008.
He served three years in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Ben worked at Tennessee Eastman Company for many years and truly enjoyed all the people and friends he made there. While at TEC he was a member of the Rock & Mineral Club. He spent many happy hours collecting and photographing rocks and minerals.
After retiring, he became interested in genealogy and collected information on his Scottish ancestors. With his dear cousin Joan Hendricks, he actively shared this information in a bimonthly Kinkead Clan newsletter and at reunions.
Ben served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by a precious nephew, George Grills, Jr.
Ben is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane McConnell Kinkead; daughter, Jan Hiltzheimer and husband Fitz of Savannah, GA; two grandsons, Fitz Hiltzheimer IV and wife Kelly and Ben Hiltzheimer and wife Kristin; precious great-granddaughters, Haley and Sara, and another precious great-grandchild to be born next year; two sisters, Helen Rose Grills of Kingsport and Jane Nelms of Sarasota, FL; very special nieces and nephews, Jane Jones, Pat Grills, Mickey Grills, Jean Smith, Harry Nelms and Forrest Cash.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with Wayne Ladd officiating.
