Ben G. Larkey, 76, of Hiltons, VA, died Friday afternoon February 19, 2010 after an apparent heart attack.
Born in Bristol, VA, Ben had resided in Hiltons, VA since 1997. He was a graduate of Hilton High School, attended Emory & Henry College, and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1958.
Ben served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed with IBM Corp. in Kingsport, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta, retiring in 1991.
Ben was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Mabel Carter Larkey.
Surviving are his wife Ann McMurray Larkey, of the home; daughter, Ginger Larkey, Gate City, VA; son, David Larkey, of the home; sister, Harriett Phlegar and husband Bob, Signal Mountain, TN; brother, Hugh C. Larkey and wife Mary, Athens, GA; nephews, Michael Larkey and wife Robin and Dan Larkey, GA; niece, Michelle Larkey, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Jean, Darrel and Pam, Carl and Linda, Wade and Sandi, Daniel and Susie, and Greg and Mary McMurray.
The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating and Richard H. Bagley will deliver the eulogy.
