Ben W. Shipley, 88, passed away October 28, 2018, at home in Stephens City, VA, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Shipley was born April 4, 1930, in Washington County, TN to the late Bruce and Katy Shipley. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Ben worked at the Kingsport Press until the strike of 1963; ultimately having to move his family to the Washington, D.C. area as a result. Thereafter, he began work at the U.S. Government Printing Office, retiring in 1991 and moving back to Washington County, TN. Ben and wife Gladys then spent many joyful years serving the Lord at Cherry Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Limestone. He loved his family first and foremost, making life decisions accordingly. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially woodworking in his free time.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Gladys.
He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Donna Lowe of Stephens City, VA; son, Joel (Celeste) of Carmel, NY; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Lowe of Stephens City, VA, April (Chris) Colgan of Gainesville, VA, Carissa (Robert) Keller of Harrisburg, PA, and Jenna Shipley of Carmel, NY; special great-granddaughter, Leighanne Lowe of Stephens City, VA; in addition, two sisters, Sue Greene of Rogersville and Virginia Stillwell of Moscow Idaho.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Limestone, TN.
In lieu of flowers, Ben's family requests that donations be made to either Cherry Hill Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Janice Keys, 877 Providence Rd., Limestone, TN 37681 or Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 687 Pleasant Grove Rd., Limestone, TN 37681.
