Bennie "Bud" Mowell, 74, Kingsport, died Saturday night May 24, 2008 at his home in the presence of his family after a brief battle with cancer.
A life-long resident of Sullivan County, Bennie served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from AFG Greenland Plant in 1996 after 29 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ora Mowell; six infant brothers and sisters; and two sisters, Odell Morelock and Ruth Conkin.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Mowell, of the home; daughter, Kathy Light, Fall Branch; son, Timothy Mowell and wife, Kristen, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Jamie, Lakyn, Grace, Jeremy, and Matthew; sisters, Martha Parker and Charlotte Morelock, both of Kingsport; an aunt, Maxie Mowell, Baileyton, TN; step-children, Suzanne, Steve, Sam, Bill, and Janet; eleven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Peacock officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Benton Family Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post 3382 of the VFW.
Pallbearers will be David Barrett, Rodney Barrett, Billy Barrett, Joseph Barrett, Wayne Simpson, and Phil Light. Honorary pallbearers will be J. W. Ryans, Chris Ryans, Glenn Ryans, Matthew Mowell, and Jeremy Light.
