Bernice Hawkins Bartley, 62, of Kingsport, went to be with her eternal family Thursday night, March 24, 2011 at her home after a long, courageous fight with cancer.
She was a life long resident of Kingsport. Bernice retired from Hillside Manor in 1996 where she worked for many years. She was a Baptist. The family would like to thank Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Dan Carroll and staff, Dr. Shipstone, nursing staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Oncology, Dr. Rebecca Austin, and Wellmont Hospice nurse Becky.
She was preceded in death by parents Woodrow and Gladys Ray; four sisters, Helen Bragg, Earline Templeton, Billie Jean Ray, Dorothy Stump; brother Danny Lynn Ray; daughter-in-law Jennifer Hawkins.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Kenny Bartley of the home; two daughters, Pamela Hawkins and fianc Jed Bright of Kingsport, Tina Williams and husband, Gary of Kingsport; two sons, Richard Hawkins of the home, Brian Hawkins of Kingsport; step daughter Carrie Bartley of Johnson City; step son K.C. Bartley and wife, Emily of Fall Branch; six grandchildren: Timmy Johnson, Brittany Johnson, Anthony Hawkins, Kayla Hawkins, Ericka Hawkins, Leigha Hawkins; great-granddaughter Kayla Johnson; step granddaughter Hailey Bartley; special nieces, Patti Bragg, Rhonda Murphy, Sue Wade; special friends, Wilma Hudson, Marie Pullian and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, March 28, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will begin at 7 pm with Evangelist Pat Wade officiating. Music will be provided by the True Faith Quartet.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Timmy Johnson, Anthony Hawkins, Ricky Bragg, Grant Templeton, Jason Wade, and Jason White. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Hamlett-Dobson at 10 am.
