Bernice Hawkins G'fellers passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Baysmont of Asbury Place, Kingsport. She was born April 8, 1921 in Dickenson County, VA to Nathan G. Hawkins and Lelia S. Hawkins and was a resident of Kingsport from early childhood. Bernice was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.

She was employed as an executive secretary at the Kingsport Press prior to devoting her life to her family. As a loving wife and mother, she shared an exemplary life with her husband and son. Throughout her life she enjoyed a special closeness with her sisters, Valice Hawkins and Ruby Blair, and with Ruby Blair's two children, Bob Blair and Janice Williams. She enjoyed gardening and she enjoyed music, particularly that of her gifted son, Gary.

Mrs. G'fellers was a dedicated member and supporter of Mountain View United Methodist Church and a member of the Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Philip H. G'fellers and their beloved son, Gary; brother, Beecher Hawkins; sister, Ruby Hawkins Blair; one infant sister and one infant brother; and a special nephew, Robert L. Blair, Jr.

Surviving are her sister, Valice Hawkins of Kingsport; nieces, Marcelena Roberts, Trula Simmons and Janice Williams; nephew, Robert B. Hawkins, Jr.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Bertie Hawkins; cousin, Theada Witherspoon; and a special nephew-in-law, George Williams.

She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends in the Kingsport area.

The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport from 12-1:00 pm on Friday, January 4, 2013. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert B. Hawkins, Jr., Stanley Roberts, Robert Simmons, Blair Williams, Neal Blair, Charles Hawkins, George Williams and George Witherspoon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View United Methodist Church, 4405 Orebank Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664.
