Bertha Harless Payne, 89, of Kingsport, passed away 4 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2012 at Greystone Health Care.
Born in Buchanan County, VA, she has lived the majority of her life in Kingsport. Bertha worked at Mary Gray Hosiery Mill in Bristol and in the latter part of her life, she worked in dietary at Greystone Health Care. She enjoyed gardening, working on her farm, and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Payne; parents, Phillip and Vergie Harless; brother, Marvin Harless; and four sisters, Belvie Stapleton, Nellie Brown, Della Bellamy and O'Deane McConnell.
Survivors include two brothers, Harry Harless and Dewey Eugene Harless and wife Shirley, of Kingsport; brother-in-law, M. B. McConnell, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 6 p.m. with Hubert Smith officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
