Bettie L. (Grogg) Wallen

Bettie L. (Grogg) Wallen, 75, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center unexpectedly. Born in Kingsport on September 1, 1942, daughter of the late Sevier G. and Ida B. Grogg. She had resided in this area since November 1999 moving from the Washington DC area. Bettie retired from Cafritz Co. in 1999 following 35 years of service. Bettie will be remembered as a loving and devoted mom, Nanny/Granny, sister, and friend who loved her family, crossword puzzles, and playing the piano while singing praises to her Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 and a half years, Burley (Jimmie Lee) Wallen and her brother, Douglas Grogg.

Bettie is survived by her three children, Toni Greer of Rogersville, Tammy L. Wallen of Kingsport, and Jamie L. Wallen and wife Tanya of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Katie Sanders and husband Joe, Kevin Mothershead, Jessica Stanley and husband Todd, Ashlee Wallen, Alexis R. Wallen, and Taylor Wallen; five great-grandchildren, Meghan Mothershead, Dillon Mothershead, Emma Stanley, Tyler Mothershead, Loretta Grace Stanley; sister, Helen DeFreece of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews, special friends, Gary and Marlene Eidson, Roy Ripley, and Francis (Frannie) Rivers; and her pets, Jasper and London.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p .m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and at other hours at the residence. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Billy Wayne Arrington officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those attending committal services are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m. and then proceed to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Wallen, Todd Stanley, Kevin Mothershead, Duffer Wallen II, and Lawrence "Tip" DeFreece. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Eidson and Roy Ripley.
