Betty Beard, 79, Kingsport, TN, died Friday morning April 25, 2008 in Atlanta, GA while visiting her daughter, Diane Martin and husband Mark.
A native of Newton, NC, she had degrees from Women's College, North Carolina at Greensboro and East Tennessee State University. Mrs. Beard had lived in Kingsport for 58 years. She was a teacher for 22 years at Colonial Heights School and Rock Springs Elementary.
She was a very active member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church for 52 years.
Mrs. Beard enjoyed bridge and worked as a volunteer at Holston Valley Medical Center and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a great mother and grandmother and a friend to many. Mrs. Beard was an eleven year survivor of lung cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Beard; parents, Austin and Pearl Setzer; and brother, Jack Setzer.
Surviving are her daughter, Diane Martin and husband Mark of Fayetteville, GA; two sons, Lamar Beard and wife Gail of Cumming, GA and Danny Beard and wife Lourdes of Hinsdale, Illinois; and nine grandchildren.
Visiting hours are from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Monday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with The Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Martin, Ross Beard, Austin Beard, Max Fiandt, Clay Adams, Dr. Rodney McMillin, Dr. Cham McMillin, and Dr. Jeff McMillin.
