Betty Stapleton Coats

Betty Stapleton Coats, 78, of the Bloomingdale Community, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, at her home following an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Coats; her parents, Roy and Kate Stapleton; and an infant brother, Roy Howard Stapleton.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Jimmie Sue Coats, Kingsport, David and Patty Coats, Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Wendy Duncan and husband Todd, Rob Coats, April Osborne and husband Brandon, Jennifer Young and husband Jason, Caroline Coats; six great grandchildren, Rutledge, Grady, Robby, Callie Jo Wright, Parker and Addison; two sisters, Ruth Gregory and husband Bill of Kingsport, Loretta Arnold of Kingsport; a brother-in-law, Walter R. Coats Jr. of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Kingsley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Mausoleum. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Jericho Shrine Marching Patrol.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
